New Orleans Saints and the PPM

The New Orleans Saints have just won the Super Bowl with most of their players wearing the Makkar Pure Power Mouthguard or PPM. Saints cornerback, Tracy Porter (ran for a TD after intercepting Peyton Manning's pass), is an advid proponet of the PPM. PPMs can be used by any athlete (amateurs on up to pros). Not only does the mouthguard protect the athlete's teeth, but it can also helps to improve flexibility, range of motion, balance, and strength! Check out the Makkar Advantage website: http://www.makkaradvantage.com/

I use the same neuromuscular dental principles for fabricating the PPM that I use for treating bite issues, headaches, and TMD. Check out our website: http://www.ihateheadaches.org/aptos.html

Headaches are classified into four basic categories: migraine, cluster, sinus, and tension. While an occasional headaches are often treated by over-the-counter pain medications, more frequent or severe headaches should be evaluated by a physician. Tension headaches are the most commonly experienced headache. One possible cause of chronic tension headache is an abnormal bite or occlusion. Until the occlusion issue is addressed, the muscles of the temple, jaw, face, and neck may remain contracted or tense. This tension will cause poor circulation and lack of rest to the muscles, causing pain or headaches. Occlusion issues need to be evaluated by a neuromuscular dentist. I would be happy to address any concerns or questions. Please call our office at 831-685-3300. Patient testimony of headache and TMD relief

Many of my patients have suffered for months and even years with signs and symptoms of TMD (commonly called TMJ) but were unaware of the neuromuscular cause of their pain and other symptoms. See my web site for these signs and symptoms at http://www.ihateheadaches.org/blogs/california/blog-california.html.
Many of these patients have seen numerous physicians, chiropractors, physical therapists and other health care professionals including dentists whose treatment has not given them any lasting relief from these signs and symptoms.

Here is a testimony of one of my patients as to the benefits of TMD treatment:

I have suffered from chronic daily headaches and migraines for twenty years. I had been diagnosed with allergies and sinus problems; undergone sinus surgery; endured every medication on the market; spent a fortune on acupuncture, physical therapy, and hypnotherapy; had reactions to neurologic medications; and still suffered from constant headaches. I was never diagnosed with TMD because I didn't have the usual clicking or popping of the jaw. My two main symptoms were congestion of and pressure behind the ears, and headaches, leading to multiple visits to the ENT and audiologist. I was lightheaded and dizzy much of the time, but the doctors were never able to find anything wrong and suspected Meniere's Disease. On a whim I came to Dr. Forsberg for a consult. He immediately told me that all of my symptoms were those of TMD and suggested we try an orthodic appliance. I have been wearing my orthodic for three months and have not had a migraine since. My headaches have significantly decreased, and both the ear pressure and dizziness have been completely eliminated.Dr. Forsberg and his staff have been a lifesaver to me. They have been compassionate, knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. Dr. Forsberg's expertise is evident at every visit. He and his staff are highly trained in neuromuscular dentistry and are able to diagnose the correct position of the jaw with specialized equipment that standard dentists do not have access to.I will be forever grateful to Dr. Forsberg and his wonderful staff for the blessing of a life free of migraines.
Denise

New Orleans Saints Mouthguards

During last Monday Night Football (MNF) game Jon Gruden and the other TV announcers talked extensively about the improved athletic performance of the undefeated New Orleans Saints and the importance of a particular mouthguard in helping them to a 7-0 start to their season. This particular mouthguard is called the Pure Power Mouthguard (PPM) and only can be fabricated by dentists trained in Neuromuscular dentistry and and certified by Makkar PPM to deliver these athletic improving scientific mouthguards. A scientific study of the PPM has been done at Rutgers University to validate these claims. Although other mouthguards protect your teeth, they can in fact diminish performance. In Santa Cruz County and the Monterey Bay Area, Dr. Terry Forsberg has been delivering these mouthguards since their development. Yesterday, the LA Times sports section had an article on the MNF game. Here is a link to that article: http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-nfl-farmer6-2009nov06,0,7429686.column. Dr. Forsberg will do a simple pen test which will show you how a better bite can give you greater strength, flexiblity and balance when performing in your sport (golf, football, basketball, baseball, triathelon, etc.). Give our office a call 831 685-3300 or email us at www.terryforsbergdds@ebold.com for more information, plus, check out our website http://www.advancedsmiledesigns.com/pure-power-mouthguard.html.

Good News for Headache and Facial Pain Sufferers

There is good news for chronic headache and facial pain sufferers. With new technology, we as neuromuscular dentists can evaluate the activity of involved jaw muscles by using electromyography or EMGs. This is similar to an EKG which evaluates the heart's muscle activity. Using EMG's, computerized jaw scans, and a TENs unit to relax the muscles, we are able to not only locate which muscles are tense and fatigued, but also find the position the jaw and muscles will be relaxed and comfortable. Using these recording or scans as a guideline, a dental appliance (an orthosis) is fabricated to allow the jaw to be in that comfortable position. This often brings relief to the patient who may have suffered for years with chronic tension headaches. Often, more permanet treatments may an option for many patients. This year alone we have treated multiple headache pain suffers and reduced the frequency and intensity of their pain. Most have had their pain eliminated!!! If you have have been to ENT's, neurologists, chiropractors, osteopaths and still have headaches, it may be YOUR BITE that is the cause of the pain!! Call our office for more information and treatment evaluation.
